2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Location: Southern California Genealogical Society Family Research Library

The SCGS TMG User Group is a forum where users of The Master Genealogist© (TMG) software gather to discuss features, issues, and practical application of the “the gold standard in family history software” and its related companion, Second Site©.

The SCGS TMG User Group meets monthly on the afternoon of the first Saturday of the month except for holiday weekends and special SCGS event dates. Meetings are held at the Southern California Genealogical Society Family Research Library in Burbank.

Our meeting format generally consists of a meet-and-greet period, questions from new attendees, a question-and-answer session, and a presentation, usually given by Patt Ricketts, SCGS member and TMG user since 1997.

SCGS TMG User Group is a volunteer Interest Group of the Southern California Genealogical Society. Meetings are open to the general public. There is no fee for attendance. Donations are accepted.

If you are a TMG user or are thinking about moving your data to TMG, why not join us? Bring your questions about TMG functionality, importing data from other software, and “how to” with you and learn how TMG can meet all of your genealogical software needs.

Chinese American Interest Group Meets 20 Oct

SCGS is pleased to announce our newest interest group.

The Chinese American Interest Group is newly formed and will begin meeting in 2012. The formation of this group is an outgrowth of a group which has been meeting informally for the past year.

Our focus is on gathering information and resources to assist those on a quest to trace their Chinese American ancestors, with special attention to the impact on family histories of the Exclusion Act
(1882-1943) and restrictive quotas which did not change until the late 1960's.

We will meet from 10am to 12 noon on the third Saturday of the dates listed below. As the times may change, please confirm the date and time with the office. Also, we may have additional activities such as field trips. If you are attending for the first time, you may wish to notify the group of any special research issues you may have.

“Producing a Reunion Book – from Content to Printed copy”
Presented by Dick Humphrey

This workshop will provide a look at various options for printing at home, at copy centers and with online services. A demonstration will show steps to use Microsoft PowerPoint for custom pages with images, text, tables, genealogical charts and reports and will conclude with uploading online for printing.  He encourages you to bring your laptop if you have PowerPoint already loaded on your computer so you can follow him step-by-step. If you don’t bring a laptop, don’t worry -- Dick will provide you with enough information to duplicate the process at home.  Dick Humphrey has been a member of SCGS for over a year. Recently he retired from a career with the Harvard-Westlake School where he taught high-school physical sciences and was also the head of the Computer Services Department.

The library will not be open for research.
