[CA-SCGS] Fun with Genealogy - Color Your Pedigree!

5 generation pedigree chart created using the original template
designed by J. Paul Hawthorne

Show Your True Colors

In a world so focused on serious news stories, world events, and the political environment of the day, we thought we'd share something fun and exciting that the whole family can enjoy.

SCGS friend and Jamboree Honorary Blogger J. Paul Hawthorne created a fun visual tool - the 5 generation pedigree chart by birth state / location. The concept took off like wildfire and the SCGS Social Media team has been having a blast watching the explosion of colorful pedigree charts popping up on Facebook.

Want to get in on the fun?

Download the form here. To make it your own, simply delete the typed info, enter your own, and adjust the colors as you'd like.

Want to include more generations?  Dear Myrtle created a six generation chart and has also made it available here.

Let's face it - family history and genealogy is more than just a collection of names and dates on paper. It's about people, places, and the stories they created and passed down.

Get creative and have fun!

Even better - round up the kids and make it a family project!

What a great visual tool to get the conversation started with the next generation.

Special thanks to J. Paul Hawthorne and Pat Richley-Erickson for the links.

  1. I love genealogy and love interacting with other enthusiastic people about family. Thank you Lise Harding, Paula Hinkel and everyone at SCGS for keeping us educated. Can't wait to go to Jamboree this year!

    1. Well done J. Paul Hawthorne for getting us all started on this. Were you surprised to see it go "viral"?
