Bargain Alert: Find My Past.com

FindMyPast.com, a UK-based genealogy website, is offering a free 14-day trial.

You may have had a chance to test-drive FindMyPast.com at the Genealogy Jamboree Tech Zone. No? Well, here's your chance to use it from the comfort of your own home.

According to the FindMyPast website, "This is where your family history really comes to life. Here you can search millions of UK records, grow your own family tree, and discover how your ancestors lived, worked and played."

Sign up today and try FindMyPast FREE for 14 days. Your free trial includes access to our Foundation package which comprises:

* The complete 1841-1911 census collection for England and Wales
* Most complete birth, marriage and death indexes (1837-2006) online
* Our overseas BMD records 1761-2005
* BMDs at sea 1854-1890
* Online help and advice
* Customer support with your account

Here's the fine print (and it stings.) You are required to provide a credit card number. AND they will put through a pre-authorization on the card in the amount of £58.95 (about $95 in US dollars). OPINION: You probably would not want to use a debit card for this offer, since your money is tied up immediately.

Unless you cancel before the end of the 14 days, you will automatically be given a 6 month Foundation subscription and payment will be taken. You can opt out of the trial at any time from the 'My Account' page. You will not be charged anything during the free trial period.

If you'd rather not worry about registering from home, you can hold off until Jamboree, when we expect FindMyPast.com to participate in our Tech Zone again.

  1. Do your records include Ireland and / or records of departure from Liverpool? I'm looking for departure from Liverpool in 1853?
