Thanks to a federal stimulus grant, the telecommunications cabling at the Richard J. Riordan Central Library is being replaced.
During the project:
-Subject departments will be temporarily closed due to safety concerns according to the schedule below. Plan your visit accordingly.
-The books and other items in the closed department will not be available.
-If visiting the library, look for signs to direct you to the temporary re-location of the subject department information desk staff.
-Telephone calls will be automatically routed to the re-located staff.
-LAPL apologizes for the inconvenience and appreciates your patience during this project.

Thanks to Liz Hall Morgan for tipping us off on temporary closures at the LA Public Library. Liz says that the change is due to upgrading the Library's broadband. Yay to that!

ReplyDeleteI was *assuming* it had to do w/broadband because there is a "BroadbandUSA"/Recovery.gov logo on the LAPL website page.
Thought I should fact-check, so here are highlights from the LAPL press release announcing the grant which is probably responsible for these updates:
• new branch servers, routers and switches to enable computer users to have
smoother access to the Internet resources they seek
• upgrade of the Central Library cabling infrastructure to achieve fast-ethernet
connectivity for the public computers
• 1,268 new public computers and printers to replace ones that are over 6
years old, in all 73 library facilities
• upgrade of wireless servers and hubs at all libraries to provide more robust
Internet access to those with their own laptops
• mobile laptop computer carts to allow for public computer training at 12
branch libraries.
