Jamestowne Society: First California Company

The Jamestowne colony was privately financed by the Virginia Company. 104 men and boys landed on the banks of Virginia's James River on May 14, 1607. There, over thirteen years before the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts, they established the first permanent English settlement in America. They endured a struggle for existence against disease, drought, starvation and hostile native residents in which six out of seven perished. Paul Lipinski has been a researcher for over thirty years and has traced most of his ancestral lines to the 1700s. As a member of the Polish Genealogical Society of California he has served on the board as President and Vice-President, and he is currently Editor of their quarterly publication, the Bulletin, and has also written articles for other societies’ publications. He has organized and chaired local and national conferences and has spoken to many local genealogical societies and other groups. The benefits of timelines to genealogists and what computer technology has meant to how we use timelines today will be illustrated.

Cornish
The SCGS collection of Cornish records include the celebrated Ross Collection of births, marriages, deaths and other official records from the Cornwall government and church. Many date back to the 1500s. We can also search Cornish miners of California, Michigan, and other areas.
French-Canadian
We are the home of the French-Canadian Heritage Society of California and one of the largest collections of French-Canadian resources in the USA. These resources include the Blue and Red Drouin, Jette, Tanguay, PRDH, and the marriage records of over 1000 parishes, just to name a few.
American
Our collection has materials for almost every county in the US. Special assistance is available in the following areas: Revolutionary War, American Colonial Wars, Massachusetts Town Records to 1850, California Gold Rush, 1852 California Census, California vital records.
Los Angeles County
Vital records (births, deaths, marriages), Los Angeles Times newspaper obituaries, selected cemetery indexes and 1892 Great Register of Voters.
