The Southern California Genealogical Society is pleased to
announce the formation of a user group for Ancestry’s Family Tree Maker genealogy
software program. Meetings will be held at the SCGS Library in Burbank
on the fourth Sunday of each month, from 2-4
p.m.
User group meetings will provide information for all levels
of FTM users from beginner to advanced and serve as a forum for all to share
their knowledge of this great software tool for keeping track of your
genealogical efforts. The emphasis will be on how to record your information
and how to use the program productively.
The first meeting of the user group has been
scheduled as follows
Date: Sunday, August
26, 2012
Time: 2-4 p.m.
Place: SCGS Library
417 Irving
Drive
(just north of Glenoaks between Scott
Rd. and Buena Vista St.)
Family Tree Maker, now at version 2012, is a full-featured
and very rich program for storing and working with genealogical information.
- Over time, we can explore in depth each of the 7 major workspaces in FTM 2012 - Plan, People, Places, Media, Sources, Publish and Web Search - as well as popular features like TreeSync with Ancestry Member Trees
- We will discuss options and the rationales for choosing various approaches – no single way is best for everyone
- Experienced users can share tips with those wishing to migrate from earlier FTM versions.
At the first meeting, plan to share your genealogical
interests, software version, and problem areas to help with setting agendas for
future meetings.

AGENDA: In our first meeting, we will carefully demonstrate the installation procedure for Family Tree Maker 2012 and then step through the creation of new tree files from scratch, older FTM versions, GEDCOM files and online Ancestry trees.
