from Dick Humphrey, leader of the FTM User Group.
Acquired by Ancestry.com last year, Find A Grave is an increasingly popular, free website listing millions of burials. Besides burial locations, FAG memorial pages may contain useful personal data and photographs of grave markers. For the genealogical researcher, Find A Grave can be a real gold mine!
Topics addressed will include:
1. Understanding and evaluating the eleven elements of each FAG memorial page.
2. Tips for locating memorial pages and the organization of FAG records.
3. Becoming a Find A Grave contributor – why and how.
4. Overview of contributor activities: create/edit memorial pages, upload photos and leave virtual flowers.
5. How to request grave photos and the transfer of memorial pages for maintenance.
6. Find A Grave contributor tools: cemetery lists and virtual cemeteries.
7. A method to incorporate FAG memorials in genealogy software like Family Tree Maker.
8. Example of an interesting Find A Grave project linking together family memorial pages
The meeting is open to the public; attendees do not need to be members of SCGS.
