The Southern California Genealogical Society German Interest Group will hold their next meeting from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the SCGS Library in Burbank.
There will be three presentations during the meeting.
Lois Wildman will present The Blender Family from Sigmaringen, Wurttenberg
Then Melanie Gnad will present Secrets from the Black Forest: The Geiser Family from Aachen Obersasbach, Baden to ...
That will be followed by Barbara Burkholder's presentation The Schwartz Family from Ittersdorf, Germany
The German Interest Group also provides short educational sessions each month including tutorials on common German words and on reading German Gothic Script. One of the regular contributors is featured below.
Edward McKelvey grew up in Ohio in the company of all his grandparents and most of his great grandparents. The family stories that they shared with him piqued the young man's curiosity and he began documenting his family history in 1974. Edward first attended Jamboree about 10 years ago and subsequently joined SCGS. He has been using the library ever since and about six years ago began as a volunteer librarian. Edward can be found in the library the third Saturday of each month and is a regular contributor to the German Interest Group. He provides short sessions each month on the German language with the goal of helping the members use sources in German, including the library's extensive collection of German books, periodicals, and other printed materials.
There is no fee for participation and the public is always welcome.
