The group will continue their activity of Routing Our Roots - Germany to America.
First Carol Thomas will present Her Bailey Family from the Alsace Region.
That will be followed by Walt Sturrock's presentation of His Yung-Yeager Family.
The featured group member this month is long-time SCGS member Lois Wildman.
Lois began her family research about 16
years ago and is currently active in the Irish Interest Group as well as the
German Interest Group. Over the years she
has done a lot of letter writing to libraries, courthouses, and cousins and
credits “the kindness of others” for many of her findings. Lois learned much about her maternal line from
her great aunt’s diary as well as from the family bible, letters, family trees,
and birthday book collected by that kind lady.
Lois remembers her father telling stories about his early life on the
family farm in Nebraska and teaching her a handful of German words taught to
him by his grandmother. Lois reports that she is “still
riding the genealogy roller coaster. Sometimes it goes flat, but then there are
those twists and turns – wow! You just
hang on and keep riding!”
The goal of the SCGS German Interest Group is to provide a wide range of resources both inside and outside the SCGS Library to help trace German families. They often have a speaker on German research and the group is happy to offer assistance with your German research problems. New members and guests are always welcome.
