PBS Genealogy Roadshow in Los Angeles This Saturday! Join the Fun!

Join us as we welcome PBS and the Genealogy Roadshow crews to Los Angeles, California. It's an opportunity to have fun, explore your family history, learn about local resources, and watch the making of one of your favorite TV shows!

When: Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

(Hint: get there early - lines start forming at 8:00 a.m.)

A special note from SCGS member Jane Van Tour:

I have had the pleasure of attending other tapings of Season 3 of Genealogy Roadshow. This one is in our backyard - please come, you won't be disappointed! As you see the historic Union Station with its mixture of Spanish Colonial, Mission Revival and Art Deco architecture, open your genealogical minds. You may hear the notes of a Glen Miller song or see the many troops who moved through the station during World War II.  Perhaps, like our Jamboree Chair Alice Fairhurst, one of them was your relative. Visit the SCGS table and those of the other groups who are there. Please make sure to stop by the PBS table and get a picture with one of their signs and thank them for their programming. You can also use your research skills to find other things to do in the area.

Things To Do Downtown

If you are so inspired by your visit to Genealogy Roadshow that you want to start investigating your family history immediately, you are in luck! The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) Central Library is located just a short distance away...and on the 16th, the SCGS is hosting a Genealogy Garage workshop "Is Your Family in the LAPL Family History Archives" from 11 am - 1 pm in the History & Genealogy Department, Lower Level 4.  To find out more, visit the SCGS website. 

Whether you take a stroll over to El Pueblo de Los Angeles on Olvera Street, head to Chinatown, wander in search of some fantastic food, or take in nearby sights, there are unique opportunities to learn about the rich cultural diversity and experience the history of the area.
