Wishing you and yours a very Happy Mother's Day
In celebration of Mother's Day, the Social Media Team has a special treat for you!
We hope you enjoy the first of a four piece series featuring works written by SCGS members, many of whom participate in the SCGS Writer's Group. Thanks to Jennifer Taylor and the members of the group for their willingness to share their memories, talent and time with all of us.
TELLING MY BEADS
Jerusha, Bethiah,
Philotha, Melissa,
Like honey your names
Now fall from my tongue.
I search out your tales,
My mothers in blood,
Elisheba, Keziah,
You'll not be forgot.
Against Bible begats
Of loud trumpeted fathers,
I whisper the nameless,
Or first name alone.
The saddest of all
Unknown and Unknown,
Those lost without trace
Save for husband or child.
Though your colors be mute
In my necklace of beads,
I treasure you all,
Oh, Hannah, Rosanna,
And you my Unknown,
I’ll tell you again.
Jean Snow
SCGS Member and Writer's Group Leader Emeritus
The SCGS Writers Group will be meeting on Sunday, May 8, 2016 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the SCGS Library in Burbank. The Writers Group is a lively, friendly group, sharing ideas for researching and writing their family tales and histories. Join them to learn how to turn the dry statistics of "Begats, Beweds and Begones" into lively tales of family and situation.
