Do you have Irish roots? Are you interested in Irish family history?
If the answer to either question is yes, then you won’t want to miss the next quarterly SCGS Irish Workshop on Sunday, May 29th, 2016 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the SCGS Family Research Library in Burbank.
The meeting will begin at 10:00 am with a general question and answer session. Bring your “Brick Walls”, your written notes, laptop, tablet or other devices with your most puzzling ancestors’ information and the SCGS Irish Interest Group will try to help you break down that wall. The group recently covered 17th and 18th Century resources and will use those in addition to earlier and later sources to help you find that elusive ancestor.
The group will break for lunch from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm.
After lunch, Barb Randall will introduce you to Irish Transported Convicts. The British were famous for transporting people from their home soil. The colonies and, later, Australia, were popular destinations for prisoners. The records can be rich with information although few may be found in Ireland. The experience was difficult for prisoners but many did lead a successful life in their new environment.
Come and see if you can find one of yours there!
