Topic: Deciphering the Letters of DNA Soup
Have you ever wondered about the four types of DNA used in genetic genealogy? Learn about the types of DNA tests sold by Family Tree DNA: Y-DNA, mitochondrial DNA, and the Family Finder test which includes both the autosomal and X chromosome tests. Cheri will demonstrate how DNA overcame a brick wall that stood since the 1950s, and a case involving the unknown parentage of two sisters.
Presenter: Cheri Mello has been active in genealogy for 25 years and regularly gives presentations about the use of DNA. She runs five DNA projects and manages mailing lists involving Portuguese-Azorean genealogy. She teaches math and music. She was a National Board Certified teacher and holds a Masters in Education.
