FILTERS and SAVED LISTS
At the Jamboree, MacKiev demonstrated some of the features
in the yet-to-be-released Family Tree Maker 2019. One of these is Smart Filters.
This will be the new name for what has been “saved lists” in FTM 2017, but with
a number of significant extensions and improvements. To prepare for this, we
will once more take a close look at filters.
Filters are the real power tool of
any database system - the ability to ask questions, that is, ‘set up a filter’
– aka make a ‘query’ - and get a list of results. (Example: list everyone
buried in Memorial Park Cemetery.) Filters have been a feature of Family Tree
Maker for many, many years. But Family Tree Maker 2017 added the ability to
save the filter results and give them a color coding (which appears in the Name
Index and in the Pedigree and Family Views).
