Looking for a place to learn more about genealogy and how to do family research? Lunch & Learn is simply the best place to do just that. Free and open to the public, it is one of the SCGS's most popular educational programs.

Starting with our January 2022 Lunch and Learn our lectures are now hybrid. Some lectures will be in our library and some lectures will be online. Both lectures will be available to in-library attendees and online attendees. Please check our website and lecture flyer for more details. Also, each Lunch and Learn will inform everyone about the next Lunch and Learn presentation.

“Find Out What Is at The Asian Pacific Resource Center for You”

The Asian Pacific Resource Center (APRC) established in 1979, is a special collection of the LA County Library located in the Rosemead Library. The collection is on the Asian American/Pacific Islander American experience, with core holdings on the history, art, and culture. Katrina Lacerna is the Asian Pacific Resource Center Librarian.


“Ripples of the Early Chinese American Pioneers”

 1:25 to 2:35 p.m. Presented by Russell Low 

Russell Low found a previously unknown100-year-old Hong family photograph, Low embarked upon a decades-long search to find the stories behind the 1903 photograph. He masterfully weaves family stories and real-life characters with the historical and political events of 19th century America. Three Coins is meticulously researched with 100 newspaper articles and photographs. Chinese American history is brought to life by the drama, romance, and intrigue of his rich family story.


Nikkei Interest Group Presents “We Were Americans”

2:40 to 3:00 p.m. 

It is the story of the perseverance of the Yamada family before, during and after World War II: their early farming days in the San Joaquin Valley, their incarceration at Poston Internment Camp in Arizona and their eventual return to farming in the San Joaquin Valley.

“We Were Americans” was commissioned in 2018 by the Glendale Public Library’s ReflectSpace Gallery, under the direction of Ara Oshagan. It was filmed on location at the site of the former relocation camp near Poston, Arizona and was directed, produced and edited by filmmaker Avo Kambourian.
