Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy
Forensic Genetic Genealogy will focus on explaining the differences between Forensic Genetics and Forensic or Investigative Genetic Genealogy (not to be confused with Familial Genetics, which is yet another different approach). He will discuss the tools and databases utilized by Forensic Genetic Genealogists and Law Enforcement, common misconceptions about FGG, some case studies, and how the field of FGG is changing and where it is going.

Presenter: Dr. Ugo Perego received his Masters degree in Health Sciences from Brigham Young University and his PhD in Human Genetics and Biomolecular Science from the University of Pavia, Italy. From 1999 to 2012 he was a Senior Researcher and Director of Operations at the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMFG) in Salt Lake City, Utah. When SMGF was sold to Ancestry.com, the data that was collected and produced became one of the reference databases for the autosomal DNA test offered by Ancestry.com.  Currently, Dr. Perego is the President of the Genetic Genealogy Consultant, a Visiting Scientist with the Biology and Biotechnology Department at the University of Pavia, Italy, and a biology lecturer at the Southeastern Community College in Iowa. He provides lectures at the University of New Haven that offers a Forensic Genetic Genealogy certificate. As a population geneticist, he focused on the origins of Native Americans and he also
lectures on Neanderthal ancestry.
