 Panel: What’s New from the 
Family Tree DNA Administrator’s Conference in Houston

The Family Tree DNA Administrator’s Conference brings top speakers to keep their project administrators up-to-date on the latest happenings in the DNA World.  A selected group of attendees will become the panelists who will present short synopses of key findings.  The session will include Questions and Answers.

Panelists: A number of people who are active members and/or organizers of the SCGS DNA Interest Group will be attending this March conference which is only open to administrators of FTDNA Projects.  From this group we will select those who will be the panelists at this March DNA meeting.

·         10:00-10:10      Announcements & Introductions
·         10:10-11:45      Presentation and Q & A.
·         11:45-12:45      Lunch
·         12:45-2:00        Individualized help.  Please bring your DNA results and password if needed.

$5.00 donation is suggested for attendance. Individualized help will be available after the formal presentation for those who want to order DNA tests or who have received DNA results and need help managing their personal page or interpreting their results. Brown bag or join us for pizza for an additional $5.00.

Following the regular meeting from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., DNA speakers and those who can help educate others with DNA testing at any company are encouraged to attend.  Roundtable discussions include how to work with group projects, planning for the DNA interest group, and news within the field of genetic genealogy.

To be held quarterly on the 5th Saturday of a month from 10:00 – 2:00 at the SCGS Library.
June 29, 2019; August 31, 2019; November 30, 2019.

2018 Jamboree Extension Series Webinars
2018

The Southern California Genealogical Society [SCGS] announces its Call for Presentations for its 2018 conferences and event. This Call pertains to the Jamboree, Genetic Genealogy, Writers Conference and the 2018 Jamboree Extension and Webinar Series Programs.  Presentations will only be accepted through the online portal August 1, 2017—September 9, 2017.

Submissions of Presentations:  Speakers interested in presenting lectures, workshops or webinars for 2018 must submit their proposals through the Jamboree Speaker Portal at  next.scgsgenealogy.com/call-for-presentations/.  Only those presentations submitted through the portal will be considered.  The submission process ensures that correct speaker information is used in communication, advertising, and conference materials. 

SCGS Jamboree draws attendees of all experience levels from first timers to conference veterans.   The Jamboree Extension Series attracts an international audience comprised of all skill levels.  We encourage the submissions of all levels of lectures; all topics will be considered.  New presentations are encouraged.  Presentations may include the following topics:
  • Digital Resources
  • DNA Genetic Genealogy
  • Ethnic Research
  • Family History Writing
  • Law
  • Methodology
  • Migration, Emigration/Immigration
  • Naturalization
  • Next Generation
  • Preservation/Archival Storage
  • Record Types
  • Repositories
Number of Presentations:  Speakers may submit up to 6 presentations.  The SCGS Jamboree Committee, at its sole discretion, may select none, some, or all of the presentations submitted by any speaker.

Session Length:  Jamboree, DNA Day and Writers Conference presentations are 60 minutes long, including a 10-minute Q&A.  Workshops are 3 1/2 hours in length.  Jamboree Extension Series Webinars are to be 60 minutes with an additional 30 minutes for questions.

Live Streaming and Recording:  Special consideration will be given to those Jamboree speakers who permit live streaming or video/audio recording of their presentation. 

Statement of Nondiscrimination:  The Southern California Genealogical Society is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.  SCGS is committed to providing an environment that is free from discrimination in employment and opportunity because of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, ancestry, disability, gender, sexual orientation, or age.  Jamboree, DNA Day, Writers Conference, Workshops and Webinar Speakers are selected based on experience, technical knowledge, speaking ability, diversity of topics and relevance.

If you have not presented at a past Jamboree and wish to provide a recording of one of your presentations, please send it to the Southern California Genealogical Society, Attention: Jamboree Chair, 417 Irving Drive, Burbank, CA 91504.  Examples of syllabus submissions may be emailed to SCGCJamboree@gmail.com.  These materials may be used during the selection process and cannot be returned but will be destroyed after the selection process.
