[CA-SCGS] SCGS German Interest Group Meeting - Saturday, February 20, 2016

Interested in learning more about your German heritage? Join the SCGS German Interest Group at their next meeting to be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2016, in the SCGS Library. Group member, Charles Bier will be giving a presentation on "More on the Signor-Bier Families."

Edward McKelvey will present more information on "German Vocabulary for Genealogy" and Walt Sturrock will continue his series on "Reading Old German Gothic Script."

The member of the month for the German Interest Group is Bill Zappen.

The January 16th, 2016 meeting was all about identifying vintage automobiles from photographs belonging to members of the German Interest Group. Bill Zappen, our vintage automobile expert, pointed out and explained in great detail, not only the different features on the cars but how those features helped date the car as well as identify who the maker was.  Bill Zappen began researching his German and Polish ancestors more than 30 years ago. In the past several years he took his research to both Germany and Poland where he was successful in locating documents to help tie his family together. In 2015, Bill gave us a detailed report on that year's trip and explained how he had hired a genealogist familiar with his locations to help with his research.

The goal of the SCGS German Interest Group is to provide a wide range of resources both inside and outside the SCGS Library to help trace German families. They often have a speaker on German research and the group is happy to offer assistance with your German research problems. New members and guests are always welcome
