[CA-SCGS] German Interest Group Meeting--Saturday, February 18, 2017

Researching your family tree and finding new, exciting, and sometimes surprising family connections?

Join the SCGS German Interest Group at their next meeting to be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the SCGS Family Research Library.
Our fearless group leader Allene Aubertin will present her topic entitled  Murder~Suicide~Culprits, "Honoring the Family Ghosts".

Allene was born in Long Beach to a mother of German Heritage and a father of British, German and Polish heritage.  Although she knew her mother's parents were German, she really became interested in the lives in the 1970's. During a visit to Trier, Germany in 1982, Allene was able to obtain birth, marriage and death certificates-written in Old German Script-of her 2nd great grandparents. With these old family documents, she knew she was on a roll, which really boosted her interest in genealogy and as well as learning more about her German ancestors which eventually brought her to the German Interest Group at SCGS.

The goal of the SCGS German Interest Group is to provide a wide range of resources both inside and outside the SCGS Library to help trace German families. Throughout 2017, our German Group will renew its "Routing Our Roots" as well as present short programs on German Exiles in Los Angeles County, History of German Towns, Human Interest Stories on folks of German Heritage, learning German Words and Old German Script, plus any last minute thoughts.
