As Russia
expanded its borders, it absorbed more and more Jews. This talk examines
Russia’s efforts to limit the Jews and the borders changes which resulted in
towns shifting from one country to another.
Presented by
Hal Bookbinder has been researching eight family lines
for over 30 years, identifying over 4,000 relatives and tracing two of these
lines into the mid-1700s. He is a former president of Jewish Genealogical
Society, Los Angeles (JGSLA) and the International Association of Jewish
Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) and currently serves on the JewishGen Board of
Governors. In 2010, Hal received the IAJGS Lifetime Achievement Award for his
various contributions to Jewish Genealogy. Mr. Bookbinder was lead co-chair of the 34th
IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy, held in Salt Lake City in
July 2014.
