Our January Guest Speaker: David Burde presents:
"German's in the Civil War"
Dave worked as a program
manager in laser and optical system programs during a 32 year career. He
started researching genealogy shortly before retirement in 2009. His
first “hit” was finding the manifest documenting the arrival of his paternal
great grandfather’s family from Italy in 1895. Since retirement, he has
expanded research into his wife’s maternal line back to 1632 from England
leading to her induction into the DAR. Both his maternal line and his wife’s
paternal line trace back to Germany, primarily in the Hesse-Kassel area. He has
just begun exploring DNA “hits” of new second cousins found.
The goal of the SCGS German Interest Group is to provide a wide range of resources both inside and outside the SCGS Library to help trace German families. Throughout 2018, our German Group will continue with a variety of short programs on a variety of subjects surrounding our German Ancestors. We may also take one month out to tour two homes belonging to long ago German Exiles. The German Group will continue with its Human Interest Stories on folks of German Heritage, learning German Words, Ancient German History, recognizing Old German Script, plus lots last minute thoughts.
