SCGS/FamilySearch Indexing is a volunteer-based effort to index billions
of records from around the world. These indexes will then be made available
online free of charge for people to find their ancestors. Many of these records
have never before been readily accessible.

To Join the SCGS Indexing Group
NOTE: You can only join one group!
1 1. Go to FamilySearch.org and log in to your account. If
you do not have an account go to Create Account. It is FREE!
22. Once you are logged in put the curser over the Indexing
Tab at the top and a pull down menu will appear and click on Web Indexing.
33. Once you are on the Web Indexing page, scroll down and
look for the Find Groups Tab and click that tab and then click on find groups.
44. Once on the Find Group page you will see a list of
groups. On the left side it will have a box that says Search Groups and in the
box type in “Southern California” and hit search.
55. The So. CA
Genealogical Society (SCGS) should
appear on your right.
66. Click on the little box that says “Join”
77. Once you hit Join it will say “pending” as I have to
add you the next time I log on to my account.
88. Once you are approved and in our group, just find a
project and start indexing. Be sure you read project instructions and how to
index that batch. I recommend you look for a beginning level batch to index at
first until you feel comfortable indexing.
99. Check your profile for your indexing progress and any
updates and messages and announcements.
