[CA-SCGS] GHSA Interest Group Meeting, Saturday, August 7, 2021, 10:00 to 4:00 pm--Meeting Online!!

 


The GSHA Interest Group will meet on Saturday, August 7, 2021, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in an ONLINE FORMAT.

Due to Covid, Hispanic Tuesdays will not meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month (except December) from 10-4 pm. Leonard Trujillo will be available for research assistance.

Topic: Cuban Genealogy
How to research your Cuban roots using online resources, DNA testing, and social media. How to develop the most effective strategy for doing challenging research in Cuba using parish records, cemetery records and other online sources. We will also discuss the future of offline sources coming online soon.

Presenter: Brian Tosko Bello is the Director of Digital Cuba, a nonprofit startup to preserve Cuban culture and heritage through digitization projects. He has conducted workshops and seminars to create awareness of the need to preserve historical records. He is a creative collaborative that lives in Washington, D.C. As Brian writes: “If I were to sum up my career experience, I would say that at my core, I am a storyteller. Telling stories with financial data sets, genealogy records or ways to stay on a low carb diet!”

The mission of the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America-Southern California (GSHA) is to promote Hispanic genealogical and historical research, and to expand awareness and knowledge of Hispanic culture, historical contributions, and traditions. The GSHA-SC is a large and active group that meets at the SCGS Library four times a year, usually on the first Saturday in the months of February, May, August & December, from 10-4 pm. 

Meetings feature speakers and/or workshops, a break for a no host, family style lunch, and opportunities to network and research after lunch. Meetings are free and open to the public. Guests are always welcome and invited to join the group.
