[CA--SCGS] A Special Thank You From SCGS Jamboree

The Jamboree Committee would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the Genetic Genealogy, and Jamboree 2021 Virtual conferences.

Thank you, Attendees!
You are what makes the conference both exceptional and memorable. Without you, there wouldn't be a Jamboree. Whether you viewed us from near or far through the wonders of technology, Thank You!

Thank you, Speakers!
For generously sharing your knowledge, research experiences and tips, your time, and your sense of humor. You continuously lead by example and inspire genealogists of all experience levels to learn more, expand our vision of what family history research is and should be, all the while reminding us to be open to all possibilities in life and in research. Speakers, Thank You!

Thank you, Exhibitors!
For showcasing the products and services that make research so rewarding, for preserving records and making them accessible online, and for the books that we just can't give up even in the digital age. For the societies that give us opportunities to learn, share and meet others who share our passion for family history. Exhibitors, Thank You!

Thank you, Sponsors!
For your generous support of Jamboree. We are very grateful for the support of all of our sponsors. Jamboree extends special thanks to Ancestry, our main sponsor, and to MyHeritage, for sponsoring Closed Captioning.

Finally, and most importantly, thank you to all the Jamboree Volunteers!
It takes hundreds and hundreds of hours of volunteer time to produce Jamboree each year. Some volunteers work year-round to plan the events, and others work an hour or two before or at the conference. Every hour magically contributes to making Jamboree special for everyone.

Sincerely,
The SCGS Board of Directors
& the 2021 Jamboree Committee

  • Ancestry Education Block – If you use Ancestry products for your genealogical research you won’t want to miss this series.
  • Bonus Lecture - Using Keywords to Unlock Genealogy Doors presented by Jean Wilcox Hibben and generously sponsored by Ancestry.

To access the JamboFree programs, simply click on this link and sign into your SCGS account (think of it like putting on a name badge).

[CA-SCGS] "The Stars in Your Family" Book is Here!

"The Stars in Your Family"

Book

Is Here!

Fascinating Family Stories!

"The Stars in Your Family" book is here!

This collection of 77 stories of stand-out family members has turned out even better than expected! In it's 210 pages, it truly showcases the wide variety of people, cultures, and experiences treasured by storytellers and genealogists. Through these stories you'll meet Medal of Honor recipients, groundbreakers in areas as diverse as law enforcement and aerospace, and a woman who amassed a real estate fortune from nothing using only her talents and wits. You'll meet loved and admired women who devoted their lives to their families - including one who had a special bedtime ritual for her chickens. You'll meet hardworking men who did anything they could to keep their families going, (even if it meant a little bootlegging, in one case). You'll also find a surprising link in more than one of our stories to Louis Armstrong.

Each of these tales represents an intriguing family story and a devotion to someone in the author's family tree who was loved and treasured. You'll learn the wisdom that was shared in a dying man's letter and one mother's secret for making perfect jello. There are also some tragedies to mourn and questions that can never be answered in these tributes to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many-times great ancestors. The Stars in Your Family was created as a companion to Jamboree 2021 as we celebrate the many Stars whose genes we carry. The book is available through Amazon for $15.99. All royalties go to support the Southern California Genealogical Society.

[CA-SCGS] Jamboree's Honored Keynote Speaker, Roberta J. Estes

THE GENES IN THE JEANS: WOMEN, BRICK WALLS AND GENETIC TOOLS

Jamboree's Keynote Speaker

Roberta J. Estes

Roberta Estes, author of the popular blog www.DNA-eXplained.com is a scientist, National Geographic Genographic affiliate researcher, Million Mito team member and founding pioneer in the genetic genealogy field. An avid 40-year genealogist, Roberta has written over 1400 articles at www.DNAexplain.com about genetic genealogy as well as how to combine traditional genealogy with DNA to solve those stubborn ancestor puzzles. Roberta took her first DNA test in 1999 and hasn't stopped.

Women make up half of our genealogy, but often present more difficult brick walls to overcome. When records are non-existent or fail us, sometimes genetic genealogy provides us with the ability to reach beyond roadblocks. What are some of the tools and techniques you might use to bulldoze yours?
