[CA--SCGS] GSHA Interest Group Meeting, Saturday, August 4, 2018

 
 
The GSHA Interest Group will meet on Saturday, August 4, 2018, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the SCGS library.
 
 
 
 
The mission of the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America-Southern California (GSHA) is to promote Hispanic genealogical and historical research, and to expand awareness and knowledge of Hispanic culture, historical contributions, and traditions. The GSHA-SC is a large and active group that meets at the SCGS Library four times a year, usually on the first Saturday in the months of February/May/August & December, from 10-4. Meetings feature speakers and/or workshops, a break for a no host, family style lunch, and opportunities to network and research after lunch. Meetings are free and open to the public. Guests are always welcome and invited to join the group.

Hispanic Tuesdays meet on the third Tuesday of each month (minus December) from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The next meeting is on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.


Hispanic Tuesdays are sponsored by the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America - Southern California, an ethnic interest group affiliated with the SCGS. Interested genealogists are invited to come to the SCGS Family Research Library on most third Tuesdays of the month to share one-on-one research time and resources with others in a comfortable, genealogy-friendly environment.  If you need help with a specific genealogy problem, it would be advisable to contact Leonard Trujillo in advance.

[CA-SCGS] GSHA-SC General Meeting at SCGS - Saturday, February 6, 2016

Mark your calendar and join the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America - Southern California Chapter at the next GSHA-SC general meeting on Saturday, Feb 6, 2016 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at the SCGS Family Research Library in Burbank.

The meeting will start at 10:00 am with announcements, followed by the swearing in of 2016 Chapter Officers. The workshop will begin at 11:30 am.

Filling in the Missing Pieces and Setting Goals for 2016 
Presented by Rita Vega Acevedo, VP Programs & Education

This workshop will help you take a ‘snapshot’ of where you are, how to overcome a current ‘brick wall’ and how to set three doable goals for 2016. The program includes working handouts to fill out at this session. If you have a PC, please bring it for access to Family Search.org and Ancestry.com (for those with subscriptions). Volunteers will be available to assist and brainstorm problem areas. Some materials for Mexican genealogy sites will be available.

Bring your Pedigree Chart and Family Tree Chart to share and Discuss. Some blank charts will be available for new members or if you lost yours. Please bring your personal biography!
Two Brains are better than one!

The SCGS Library will be closed for general research.

Four days in August with opportunities for assisted research--all FREE.

Wednesday, August 3, 3-9pm - Hispanic Wednesday at the West LA Family History Library If you need some assistance with your research, please join me Wednesday afternoon & evening , August 3, at the West Los Angeles Family History Library from 3-9pm. Our Mexico expert John Schmal will be on hand to give you personal attention. And if you need assistance with California research, let me know ASAP so that I can schedule Alex King or Joe Barnes.

Tuesday, August 16, 1-9pm - Hispanic Tuesday at the SCGS Library in Burbank If John Schmal's schedule permits, he will be joining us after 5pm to help Mexico researchers. California expert Alex King will be on hand after 6pm and I will be available for the entire session to assist you with getting organized, tours of the library, purchase of books, and New Mexico research.

Saturday, August 20, 11am-5pm - Hispanic Saturday at the LAPL Central Library Downtown Join me downtown and explore the fabulous genealogical collection at the Los Angeles Central Library. There are computers almost always available in the dept. where you can access the library's on-line collections, as well as the subscription services: Ancestry.com

Saturday, August 27, Noon-5pm - Hispanic Saturday in Orange County Patsy Vasquez will be on hand to assist you with your Hispanic research--and perhaps John Schmal will join her.

Please bring your laptop or your pedigree charts and family group charts whenever your research, but especially when you are seeking assistance. Our experts can best help you if all the information is legible and in one place--that is why the charts are so helpful--especially family group charts. If you need assistance with charts or getting organized, I can assist you.
