LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson, JD, LLM, CG®, CGL℠ 

LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson, JD, LLM, CG®, CGL℠, is a trustee and President of the Board for Certification of Genealogists. She earned a BA from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, and a Law degree and a Master of Laws degree from the New York University School of Law. After working as a corporate tax attorney for thirty-five years, she retired from a partner-level position at Ernst & Young in 2013 and turned her attention to her longtime avocation of Genealogy. 


Beginning with the disregard of African American family histories as the exemplar, the Keynote will explore the ways in which the field of genealogy has aided in the exclusion of marginalized groups in the past, but is now poised to play a leading role in helping our nation forge a future that acknowledges the contributions of all ethnicities and communities.

[CA-SCGS] Monday Meet The Speakers - Jamboree 2021



Roberta J. Estes 

Roberta Estes, author of the popular blog www.DNA-eXplained.com is a scientist, National Geographic Genographic affiliate researcher, Million Mito team member and founding pioneer in the genetic genealogy field. An avid 40-year genealogist, Roberta has written over 1300 articles at www.DNAexplain.com about genetic genealogy as well as how to combine traditional genealogy with DNA to solve those stubborn ancestor puzzles. Roberta took her first DNA test in 1999 and hasn't stopped.

Alice M. Fairhurst 

Alice M. Fairhurst, MS is President of the Southern California Genealogical Society and serves as Jamboree co-chair. From 2006 to 2015 she managed the International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG) Y-DNA Haplotree tree (www.isogg.org/tree) cited in many academic papers. Prior to retirement from JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory), she taught at Cal Poly Pomona and Glendale Community College. An avid genealogist, she first started recording her family stories when in grammar school and has traced her Scottish, Irish, and French roots.

Adrian M. Foushee 

Adrian M. Foushee has been researching his family for 12 years. He is a resident of Pasadena, originally from Washington, D.C. His families’ home states are North and South Carolina. One summer night in 1977, after the airing of Roots, his brother asked their maternal grandmother about their ancestors. The following morning his brother drew out a crude pedigree chart. The genealogy bug bit Adrian and he could not be cured. Adrian is a member of several genealogical societies.
