No Lunch & Learn in December. Instead, please join us at SCGS at our Annual Membership Meeting on December 10, 2022 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Looking for a place to learn more about genealogy and how to do family research? Lunch & Learn is simply the best place to do just that. Free and open to the public, it is one of the SCGS's most popular educational programs.

Starting with our January 8, 2022 Lunch and Learn our lectures are now hybrid. Some lectures will be in our library and some lectures will be online. Both lectures will be available to in-library attendees and online attendees. Please check our website and lecture flyer for more details. Also, each Lunch and Learn will inform everyone about the next Lunch and Learn presentation.

Curious about exactly what you can find in the collection at the SCGS Library? Wondering what the many SCGS Special Interest Groups might have to offer? Looking for a volunteer opportunity? Then the upcoming SCGS Open House is the place for you!

Representatives from the many Special Interest Groups and Software User Groups will be at the SCGS Open House to talk with you, as will the Members of the Board of Directors. Librarians will be on duty to provide guided tours of the library. Light refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes. 

As a special feature, you are invited to stay afterwards to browse the collection from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

Whether you have only recently joined SCGS, are a long-time member, or are even just thinking about joining, this is your opportunity to learn more about Southern California Genealogical Society.

On Saturday, December 9, the SCGS library was transformed into a festive holiday atmosphere, and filled with around 75 members for the Annual Meeting. 

The potluck luncheon table was overflowing with delicious salads, veggies and main dishes. And of course, the dessert tables were full of holiday cookies, pies and other wonders. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Hosting this event took lots of planning and preparation beforehand. I'd like to thank all our members who so willingly gave of their time both before and during the annual meeting. You made a difference!!

[CA-SCGS] SCGS Announces Results of Board Election

The Southern California Genealogy Society announced the new members of the SCGS Board of Directors at the recent annual meeting.

The SCGS Board expressed gratitude to outgoing Directors Suzy Goulet, Jean Taeuffer, David Burde, Lise Harding, Dick Humphrey, and Mary Daly. Barbara Randall was elected to a new term and will return to the board.

The new members are: Adrian Foushee, Betty Isbell, Barbara Randall, Jennifer Taylor, and Kevin Williams.

The 2016 SCGS Annual Meeting was a great success!

Members shared tasty treats, heard about and voted upon changes to the by-laws, listened to updates and summary reports from various committee/group leaders, and learned all about the exciting 2017 Jamboree Extension Series Webinar Program.  

The fun was capped off by the revelation of the 2017 Jamboree and Genetic Genealogy Conference posters, and some exciting drawings for prizes by the Jamboree team and Member, Jamboree 2016 Exhibitor, Jamboree 2017 Sponsor Brett Weiss of Photos, Movies and More (aka ScanDiego).

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers that worked so hard to make this event special for everyone.
